President Primary in Sturtevant; Five for Mount Pleasant Trustee

Residents in Sturtevant will have a primary to determine the two candidates who will move forward in the race for the president's seat.

Those interested in serving on the boards in either Mount Pleasant or Sturtevant had until 5 p.m. Wednesday to turn in their nomination papers. Both villages have three trustee seats open and a president's gavel up for grabs.

In Mount Pleasant, former President Carolyn Milkie resigned at the end of September at the same time former Interim Administrator Mark Morien also stepped down. Since then, former Police Chief James Majdoch was appointed to serve out the rest of Milkie's term but the village continues to search for an administrator, interim or otherwise.

Over in Sturtevant, Steven Jansen has been president since 2003 after serving as a trustee from 1999 - 2003. He is being challenged by former and current Trustees Daryl Lynaugh and John Johnson, respectively. Residents will choose in a primary which two of the three candidates they want to move forward to the April 3 general election.

Trustees in both villages serve at-large so the top three vote getters will serve two-year terms on the board. Presidents, too, are two-year terms.
