POLL: Does Mount Pleasant Need a Full Time Administrator?

The village's Personnel Committee will start placing ads in November to fill the position despite some opposition from at least one trustee.

Trustee Gary Feest is not convinced the village needs a full-time administrator, but he also recognizes he is in the minority.

"We have four trustees here," he said, indicating the Personnel Committee members plus John Hewitt at the Oct. 6 meeting. "They all think we need one."

Trustees Harry Manning and Sonny Havn with Village President Carolyn Milkie make up the committee and Hewitt and Feest regularly attend meetings. Neither Jerry Garski nor Karen Albeck were not present and not available immediately because of budget work meetings to comment for this story.

Havn, Manning and Hewitt also said the village needs a full-time administrator

"We're just coping right now," said Havn.

But in answer to Feest's pointed question of why Mount Pleasant should consider full time over part time, Milkie said it comes down to the amount of time required to complete the requirements of the job.

"If you consider the time it takes for each task, you come out with about 55 hours a week," she said. "There's no way we could expect someone to do all this on a part-time basis."

After discussing a potential job description and wording for a want ad at the , committee members agreed to table the issues until Oct. 6 to give department heads a chance to weigh-in on the job description. The week wait also gave Clerk/Treasurer Debra Salas a chance to write the want ad and research advertising options, including on various Patch sites in Wisconsin and Illinois.

Department heads did not return feedback in time, possibly because of a communication error, so reviewing the job description will wait. Salas was instructed to place the job ad in the League of Municipalities' magazine's November issue. Applicants will have until 5 pm Dec. 31, 2011 to return letters of interest and resumes to Salas. The salary range being listed for the job runs from $85,000 to $105,000.
