Planning Director Resigns, No Comment from Trustees

Former Mount Pleasant Planning Director Ron Meyer resigned Wednesday after being placed on administrative leave last week for reasons that are not being disclosed.

Mount Pleasant trustees Wednesday approved an "amicable separation agreement" with former Planning Director Ron Meyer.

The final vote was 4-3; Trustees Jerry Garski, Gary Feest and Don Schulz dissented and Trustees David DeGroot, Sonny Havn and John Hewitt and Village President Mark Gleason voted in favor of the deal.

After the meeting, neither board members nor Meyer or his lawyer would offer any comment about what led to Meyer's administrative leave and subsequent resignation. When Patch asked about the terms of the agreement, we were told there wouldn't be any comment about that either because it was still being worked out between Meyer's attorney and the village's attorney.

Feest did tell reporters that all questions should be directed to Village Administrator Kurt Wahlen and that board members would not offer anything past a "no comment."

"We are being told that all comments should be directed to the village administrator about personnel issues, dog-and-pony shows and anything else," he said. "The 'no comment' is the order of the day so direct your questions to Mr. Wahlen and I wish you the best of luck."

Schulz would only say that he enjoyed working with Meyer on multiple occasions over the last two decades. Meyer has worked for Mount Pleasant for 21 years.

"We disagreed sometimes, but I respect him and I have the utmost hope that things work out for him in his future endeavors," he said. "I just want things to work out for him."

Meyer was placed on administrative leave last week for reasons that are not being disclosed and was barred from any non-public areas at Village Hall.
