New Poll Has Walker Up by Five Points

A new Rasmussen Reports poll indicates Gov. Scott Walker has 50 percent of the vote while Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett comes in at 45 percent.

If the recall election were held today, a new poll indicates Gov. Scott Walker could come out the winner.

According to Rasmussen Reports, Walker would pull in 50 percent of the vote while Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett would garner 45 percent of the vote. Two percent would choose someone else and two percent are still undecided.

Rasmussen surveyed 500 likely voters by telephone on May 9, the day after the , when both Walker and Barrett beat out real and "protest" challengers.

With a margin of error of +/- 4.5 percent, though, perhaps the points between the candidates more closely mirrors the results of a that shows Walker and Barrett in a dead heat.

Survey results for that poll were taken between April 26-29 and show that Walker leads by one point, 48 to 47, among likely voters while Barrett leads by one point, 47 to 46, among registered voters.

Rasmussen Reports used these questions to solicit the answers that determined the outcome of the survey:

1* On June 5th there will be a special recall election for governor.  If the election were held today, would you vote for Republican Scott Walker or Democrat Tom Barrett?

2* I’m going to read you a short list of people in the news. For each, please let me know if you have a very favorable, somewhat favorable, somewhat unfavorable, or very unfavorable impression.

4* Are economic conditions in the country getting better or worse?

5* Do you strongly favor, somewhat favor, somewhat oppose or strongly oppose unions for public employees?

6* How would you rate the job Scott Walker has been doing as governor… do you strongly approve, somewhat approve, somewhat disapprove, or strongly disapprove of the job he’s been doing?
