Need a Place to Host an Event? Try Sturtevant Village Hall

For the first time, Sturtevant Village Hall will be available for rent during non-business hours.

Sturtevant trustees last week approved new rules for renting a room at Village Hall, including making it available for get-togethers at night and on the weekends.

The change was initiated by a resident who wanted to host a baby shower, but didn't have room at her house.

Previously, Rooms A and B - where residents vote and municipal court is held - could only be had for events during regular business hours for non-profits, government agencies and residents. The village required $100 deposit and refunded most of it after the room was checked for any damages and the conclusion of the event.

Now, though, residents can rent out a room after hours: from 5 to 9 pm on weekdays and 9 am to 9 pm on weekends. The required deposit is $150 with $50 returned if all is determined well after the event. Food and/or beverages will be allowed with an additional, non-refundable $50 fee. Alcohol, though, is prohibited.

"This is the people's hall, and they should be able to use it for special events," said Village President Steve Jansen during a committee meeting last month.

Trustee Linda Busha agreed.

"Since we don't have a community center, this is really the next best option," she said.

Trustees will rotate granting access to Village Hall and be responsible for locking up once the party is over.

A full list of the rules and regulations and the agreement for renting Village Hall is available from the Village Clerk during business hours, 8 am to noon and 1 to 5 pm Monday through Friday. Call (262) 886-7200.
