Mount Pleasant Will Get FEMA Money for February Blizzard

The village expects to get back about $70,000.

The February 2 blizzard was a big one. Not only did Mother Nature dump a lot of snow on the area, but it also cost the village a lot of money, most of which is being reimbursed from FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) and the State of Wisconsin.

Bill Sasse, director of engineering, said the village is going to receive about $70,000 back for qualified costs which covers overtime, some equipment expenses and salt supplies.

"The formula is that FEMA sends back 75 percent, the state takes care of 12.5 percent and the municipality pays the rest," he said.Β

The village submitted two applications; one for the highway and police departments and one for the South Shore Fire Department. Each application is being reimbursed $61,500 and $8,500, respectively, for a total of $70,000.

Using the formula outlined by Sasse, that means total cost to the village was about $100,000 for the blizzard.
