Mount Pleasant Village Hall Has Been Home to History

The current village hall was built and dedicated almost 100 years after Mount Pleasant was organized as a town.

Mount Pleasant Village President Carolyn Milkie addressed residents, municipal staff and the Village Board on Mon., April 11, at the last village board meeting that will be held in the building at Highways 11 and 31.

During her address, Milkie gave an account of the origins of the village and the building that has been home to village business since 1955:

  • Township of Mount Pleasant officially organized on April 5, 1842
  • Population in 1842 was 312
  • Mount Pleasant's first Town Hall was built in 1890 at Mygatt's Corner, Highways 20 and 31; approximately where Hardee's or Denny's now stands
  • Purchasing the tract of land at Highways 11 and 31 was approved on April 1, 1952
  • The current Village Hall was completed and dedicated March 6, 1955
  • Town population was less than 10,000
