Does Santorum Have Reason To Be Mad at New York Times?

Take a look at a longer video segment from presidential candidate Rick Santorum's speech he made in Racine County Sunday. Was the reporter being fair in his line of questions? And how do you feel about Santorum's angry response?

Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum is trying to distinguish himself as a true conservative in the campaign — in part by comparing opponent Mitt Romney's position on health care to President Barack Obama's health care reform law.

But Santorum feels his words keep getting pulled out of context and distorted by the media, and that led to a confrontation between Santorum and New York Times reporter Jeff Zeleny at an event in Caledonia Sunday night.

On Monday morning, a segment on the CBS News focused on Santorum's speech.

"Pick any other Republican in the country; he is the worst Republican in the country to put up against Barack Obama," Santorum said.

But when Zeleny questioned Santorum about the statements he made, the discussion turned confrontational.

Here's what Zeleny said:

"You said that Mitt Romney is the worst Republican in the country, is that true?"

Santorum cursed at Zeleny and asked him if he had been at the same speech.

Zeleny blogged about the incident on the New York Times:

“What speech did you listen to?” Mr. Santorum told The New York Times, speaking in a terse and agitated tone. “I said he was the worst Republican to run on the issue of Obamacare. That’s what I was talking about.”

Santorum issued a statement to his supporters. The headline read: I’m Ready To Take On The New York Times:

Earlier today, while campaigning in Wisconsin, I criticized Romney and Obama for their outrageous healthcare legislation. Predictably, I was aggressively attacked by a New York Times reporter all too ready to defend the two of them, and all too ready to distort my words. Let me assure you, I didn't back down, and I didn't let him bully me. I think it is high time that conservatives find the courage to expose the liberal press for what they are, a defender and enabler of Romney's and Obama's liberal agendas.

Do you think the reporter got it wrong? Do you think Santorum’s statement was taken out of context? We have a longer video segment from the speech.
