Barrett Calls on Walker to Come Clean on John Doe Probe

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett says voters deserve to know if Gov. Scott Walker is involved in the John Doe investigation of county employees using taxpayer time to campaign for Walker's run for governor.

After reading from an email he says pulls an even darker shadow over Gov. Scott Walker, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said Monday it's time for the governor to come clean about a John Doe investigation now under way.

At a Milwaukee press conference, Barrett put more pressure on Walker to disclose his involvement in the investigation that centers around staffers from Walker's time as the Milwaukee County executive conducting campaign activities on county time.

The May 2010 email stems from when Walker aide Darlene Wink resigned from her county job after admitting that she posted online supportive messages for her boss' campaign on county time.

The email was written by Walker and sent to former aide Tim Russell, who has been charged with embezzlement.

Related story:

"The people charged were some of Governor Walker's closest political contacts," Barrett said. "Media reports say thousands of emails have been turned over as part of the investigation. I call on Scott Walker to release the emails so the people can know their governor's role in the investigation."

A Barrett campaign staffer handed out copies of the email obtained as part of the criminal complaint against Wink. Referring to Wink, Walker wrote:

"I talked to her at home last night. Feel bad. She feels worse. We cannot afford another story like this one. No one can give them any reason to do another story. That means no laptops, no websites, no time away during the work day, etc."

Another issue raised by Barrett is the secret router supposedly installed 25 feet away from Walker's county executive office. Barrett read aloud from another email, this one sent from Kelly Rindfleisch, Walker's former deputy chief of staff, to Russell:

"I took the wireless down. It’s in my bag for now."

Rindfleisch has also been charged for her role in using taxpayer time for campaign activities. Barrett said the router being so close to Walker's office and so many associates having access to it raises a lot of questions.

"It's a simple question: Did he use it or not?" Barrett stated. "I've been asking that for weeks, even before the (recall) primary."

Walker's campaign could not be reached from comment on Monday, however, the governor briefly addressed the issue at an event in Madison, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

"Most people will see this for what it's worth. They'll see this is a desperate campaign and a desperate candidate trying desperately to have people ignore their record of failure in Milwaukee and that our reforms are working," the newspaper quoted Walker as saying.

However, Barrett said the desperation is on Walker's side. The first sign of desperation, he said, was a "besieged governor" r before they were vetted by the federal government.

"The second sign is that Governor Walker is trying to run out the clock, hoping the election takes place before any further action by the district attorney," Barrett added. "It's incumbent on the media and the people to call on the governor to answer questions about his involvement.

"People have the right to know before the election if their governor was involved in this scandal," he said.

Barrett disputed the notion that his focusing on the John Doe investigation is "just politics."

"Scott Walker is the only governor in the country with a criminal defense fund that's paying for state and federal attorneys," he added. "You don't do that if it's just a clerical error."

Walker being lead out of the Governor's mansion in handcuffs and crying like a baby .

Randy-
Many school districts around the state finally were able to dump WEA trust with the elimination of collective bargaining. They were able to shop around, pick up the same coverage at a reduced cost with other private companies. If that isn't a scam I don't know what is.
Bucky May 23, 2012 at 08:16 pm
The fun part is one is actually a thug Governor and one is a working mayor.
Bucky May 23, 2012 at 08:24 pm
Didn't know that the majority was the 1%.
Bucky May 23, 2012 at 08:36 pm
@Greg ... Walker is not forgetful, just can't keep all his lies straight.
Bucky May 23, 2012 at 08:41 pm
If I understand this correctly , the 3 Dem Congress men sent a signed letter to the Repug Party. There still may be recourse on Walker for lieing under oath. Is there no where that Scooter can run and hide ?
Bucky May 23, 2012 at 08:45 pm
Snotty's a Weasel , and the worst example of a human being. Walker would sell his mother for a nickel.
Bucky May 23, 2012 at 08:47 pm
Wait till Walker comes out of the closet.
Bucky May 23, 2012 at 08:50 pm
Wait till Walker turns his back on all of Wisconsin and the people on here that support him. All of you will fall in to the trap that walker has set. You are not included in the choosen few.
Bucky May 23, 2012 at 08:57 pm
@Mike ... Trust me , Walker thinks that we are all really stupid. Even after he's convicted there will still be those that will worship him. Just like those that followed Charles Mansion. Can't wait to here all the lies when he's on trial.
Bucky May 23, 2012 at 08:59 pm
June 5 can't come soon enough for Walker to be removed from office.
Bucky May 23, 2012 at 09:01 pm
@greg ... Do you sleep with your dog ?
Bucky May 23, 2012 at 09:10 pm
Walker will be charged as a co conspirator and who knows what Brian Pierick will share with the D.A. about Walker and thier over night sleep overs.
Bucky May 23, 2012 at 09:11 pm
I agree 100% Pete.
Bucky May 23, 2012 at 09:13 pm
Walker should be incarcerated for the rest of his life.

Bren...
I am glad you brought up this "comparison" between the public and private sector. What is the comparable private sector job to public school teacher. The answer is private school teacher. How do the wages and benefit packages compare between the two? Not well, private school teachers are paid a third to a half less, with inferior benefits and little to no pension. What is the comparable private sector job to police officer? Security guard probably would come closest. How do those compare? Again, not well. Security guards are lucky to get a quarter of a police officers salary, and again with poor benefits and no pension. We in the public sector are constantly drumming that beat that our good benefits are the result of the sacrifices we have made in wages and salaries. But if you actually start comparing the comparable private sector professions you quickly see that lie exposed for what it is. We have done way better than our colleagues in the private sector over the years, and especially in these recent difficult times.

Dills ... Stop shit ing and we wouldn't have a turd problem !
Terry May 23, 2012 at 09:22 pm
Also, in regards to the matter of the WEA insurance trust, the debate also gets interesting if you go with the closest comparable concept. If you want to get a good idea for what a bad deal the WEA insurance is, you have to compare it with other public sector insurance providers.
When you do that, you find that WEA trust charges nearly two to three times the comparable, high quality high benefit programs that are offered to police, firefighter, and other government employees. The fact that districts can change over to the same insurance that their cities provide their police officers, and save at least half the premium costs if not more, should tell you all you need to know.

You can change your name, but not your stripes, Bucky.
Same old low class schtick.
Bucky May 24, 2012 at 02:25 am
@Bob McBride ... I don't ever recall anything ever intelligent coming out of your mouth. You remind me of the class clown.
Bob McBride May 24, 2012 at 02:33 am
As unfamiliar as you are with the subject of intelligent discussion, I'm not at all surprised by that.

Alfred June 4, 2012 at 12:35 am
It must really suck being you Randy, poor, envious, miserable. Come to our side where you can excel, rise from your filth and squalor and be happy.
Greg June 4, 2012 at 12:37 am
Randy, you have a few on your side that I can say the same thing about.
Randy1949 June 4, 2012 at 12:51 am
Only a few, Greg. I've been coming here for over a year, and mostly it's your side hurling insults like a bunch of chimps flinging feces. It's hard to keep one's temper in the face of that.
This is what Scott Walker has brought us to. Alfred, you know nothing about me. Your insults about manhood and 'filth and squalor' are called projection.
Greg June 4, 2012 at 02:08 am
I guess that's called "not seeing the forest from the trees".
With the exception of Alfred.

Why was there not a news article written about the John Doe being closed after 2 years and clearing Walker???
There were multiple articles linking Walker to the John Doe over the past years. Barrett even made false accusations during the recall campaign.

Rees; When the Sacred village Board cloaked the building of a new Village hall for over $17 million,Read More it was brought to there attention to build TWO new fire stations. One south, one north. "The recall brought us closer together" You won spending 6-1 using a majority of out of state $, had 5 times longer to campaign and won because one side failed to confront the second battle of recalls as a whole vs Scotties recall.
