Woman Allegedly Poses as Sister During Police Incident

Suspect tells Mount Pleasant police she used her sister's name in order to avoid going to jail.

Using her sister's name to avoid going to jail didn't quite work out for a woman who is now in jail for using her sister's name.

A 19-year-old Racine woman is facing charges after she allegedly used her sister’s identity in order to avoid getting arrested during a June run-in with police.

Marquita M. Williams was charged in Racine County Circuit Court Friday with one count of obstructing an officer and one count of felony identity theft. If convicted, she faces up to nearly seven years in prison and $20,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

On July 11, a police officer was working security at Mount Pleasant Municipal Court when Williams’ sister approached him and said Marquita had used her identity during a June 2 incident at . The officer was one of those who responded to the call and was able to confirm the woman was not the one involved in the incident.

Officers then went to Williams’ Racine home and placed her under arrest. She had four arrest warrants issued against her and she said she used her sister’s name in order to avoid going to jail.

She’s currently being held in Racine County Jail on $1,000 bond.
