Woman Poured Scalding Water Over Husband's Head, Police Say

Victim tells police his wife, 70, has schizophrenia and has tried to kill him on several occasions in the past.

A 70-year-old Sturtevant women with schizophrenia is accused of dumping scalding hot water over her husband’s head while he was watching a Green Bay Packers game in September.

According to the criminal complaint, on Sept. 30, the victim was inside his home on 96th Street and sitting in a chair watching the game when the suspect came up from behind him and dumped scalding water over his head.

He got outside and called police. Officers found him on the grass when they arrived and the suspect, who isn’t being named by Patch, left the residence.

The man told officers his wife suffers from schizophrenia and has tried to kill him on several occasions in the past. He said she also claims to see dead people and said her deceased father has been stalking her around the house and taunting her.

Police located the woman and she was detained for mental health reasons. She told police she wanted to hurt her husband because he was “going around in circles” and “put her on the spot,” but then later claimed she dumped the water on him by accident.

Despite the incident, Racine County District Attorney Rich Chiapete said the woman is back at home at the request of her husband.

"This is an elderly couple, and they felt it was best for her for them to be together," he told Patch.

The defendant is charged with one count of first-degree reckless endangerment of safety and faces up to 15 years in prison and $100,000 in fines if convicted. She’s assigned a $5,000 signature bond while awaiting trial and ordered to take all medications prescribed to her.
