Two Teens Allegedly Steal, Then Return Golf Bag to Victim

An apology didn't do any good after two teens were allegedly caught stealing golf clubs from an open garage in Racine.

Jordan Zimmerman, 18, of , and Kevin Flick, 17, of , were charged Tuesday in Racine County Circuit Court with a single count each of felony burglary of a building or dwelling. If convicted, they each face up to 12-1/2 years in prison and/or up to $25,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

Zimmerman and Flick were driving around Monday afternoon after spending time at and Johnson Park when they spotted an open garage of a home on N. Wisconsin Street. They could see a golf bag with clubs, so Flick reportedly parked the car around the corner from the home, ran into the garage and returned to the vehicle with the golf bag, which was worth an estimated $2,000.

They proceeded north but soon realized they were being followed so they pulled over at about Charles Street and 5-1/2 Mile Road and returned the golf bag to the victim with an apology. The two teens jumped back into their car and left. By this time, though, police were on the way because the victim had called the Racine Police Department when following the suspects.

An officer with the Caledonia Police Department stopped the car at Six Mile and Michna road.

Zimmerman reportedly told police the burglary was Flick's idea and Flick did all the heavy lifting. Flick, on the other hand, told officers that stealing the golf bag was both teens' idea because they had intended on selling the bag and clubs on Craig's List. They told police they needed the money so Zimmerman could pay his girlfriend's father back after he had paid for a lawyer when Zimmerman faced disorderly conduct charges earlier this year.

The victim also gave a statement to police, telling officers he was at home when he heard a car door close and then a car speed away. He went into his garage and noticed the golf bag gone so he got into his car and started following the suspects. He confirmed that one of the teens did return his bag to him with an apology. He also confirmed that he'd be pressing charges.

Zimmerman was released on a $1,000 signature bond, but is being monitored via GPS and is only allowed to go to school, court or to meet with his attorney. Flick was also released on a $1,000 signature bond and was placed on GPS monitoring as well. Because he's only 17, a condition of his bond is that he must live with his mother.

Both suspects will appear before Court Commissioner Alice A. Rudebusch for their preliminary hearings on Sept. 26.
