Two Accused of Trying to Bilk Credit Union
A man and a woman are accused of trying to get money from a closed account at a credit union, but are stopped when they're told they can't get the money until the check cleared.
Trying to cash bad checks at a Mount Pleasant credit union leads to charges for a Racine couple.
Leroy A. McAllister, 36, and Marquetta Lashawn Parker, 28, were charged in Racine County Circuit Court Friday with one count of attempted fraud of financial institution. If convicted, they each face up to three years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint, on Sept. 21, McAllister opened up a bank account at the Educator’s Credit Union at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside then went to the location on Rapids Drive and tried to cash a check for $1,300 written from an account owned by Parker. When an employee told Parker he couldn’t get the money until the check cleared, he left the building.

MacAllister said he got the check from a woman he later identified as Parker as prepayment for yard work. He said after he left the credit union, she then wrote him a check for $1,000 and they went to the Educator's on Neumann Road to try and cash that check.
McAllister is currently being held in Racine County Jail on $400 bond and a $1,000 signature bond. Parker is free on a $1,000 signature bond.
