South Shore Fire Station No. 8 Landing Pad for Flight for Life

A Sturtevant man who was injured in a crash with tow truck on Aug. 3 was lifted to Froedtert Hospital for treatment.

Flight for Life used South Shore Fire Department Station No. 8 to land on Aug. 3 to pick up an accident victim.

According to a story in The Racine Journal Times, a Sturtevant man whose name is not being released struck a tow truck in the 5800 block of Highway KR. The accident happened at about noon after the driver swerved to avoid the truck as it backed out of a driveway.

Somers police and rescue responded to the call with assistance from the Mount Pleasant Police Department.

Because the driver's injuries were severe, Flight for Life was called and to avoid shutting down Green Bay Road, the helicopter landed at Station No. 8.

"It was easier to cordon off this area to keep everyone safe," said South Shore Fire Chief William Bouma. "The helicopter landed fine and was able to collect the patient to start caring for him right away."

The driver of the tow truck voluntarily surrendered samples of his blood to authorities.
