Shots Fired Near Park High School

Racine Police confirm shots were fired near Park High School, but there are no injuries.

Shots were fired Tuesday morning near Park High School, but the only damage reported was to a garage door.

According to Racine Police Sgt. Martin Pavalonis, calls came in shortly after 9 a.m. of shots fired in the 1900 block of Linden. When officers arrived on scene, the shooter or shooters were gone, but witnesses provided some details.

"We know that shots were reported in the area but we don't know at this point if anyone actually saw anything or if neighbors only heard the shots," he said.

Racine Uncovered had the original information that students at Park were being kept in their classrooms as a precaution. Pavalonis confirmed that RPD contacted school officials and apprised them of the situation.

"We informed school officials that we were responding to reports of shots fired, and they took action to keep students inside," he said.

A student at Park confirmed that teachers were told to keep students inside classrooms with the doors locked.

"The announcement just said to stay in the classroom, lock the door and continue teaching," the student said.

Witnesses in the area reported hearing three shots fired and seeing two males dressed in black or dark blue standing near the garage that was struck. Asked if it looked like the individuals were shooting at each other, they said no.

"They were standing right next to each other, not running away from anyone," a witness told Patch.

Another witness told us that a third male was seen running from the scene with a red backpack.

An RPD evidence technician arrived on the scene at about 10:15 a.m. while officers continued to canvass the neighborhood.

Park High School representatives at 10:25 a.m. said the day had returned to normal and students were being allowed to leave campus for lunch.

Patch will continue to update this story as details become available.
