South Shore Fire Extinguishes Roof Fire

Firefighters from the South Shore Fire Department responded to a report of a fire on the roof of the Case plant on Highway 11 and Durand Avenue just after 11 a.m..

At least 30 employees were evacuated because of a fire at the Case tractor plant on Highway 11 and Durand Avenue just after 11 a.m. Thursday.

According to Lt. Don Nowak from SSFD, the fire was located at the exhaust vent stack from a machine on the roof. Some insulation around the pipe got hot and ignited.

"We put the fire out, and Case personnel replaced the pipe and made the necessary repair," Nowak said.

The fire was contained between a membrane and the roof, and was under control and extinguished quickly. By 11:48 a.m., employees were allowed to return to the building.

There were no injuries as a result of this incident.
