Racine School Locked Down After Student Reported Seeing Student With A Gun

McKinley Middle School was locked down for about 20 minutes just before school let out. A student told authorities she saw a classmate with a gun outside, but police found nothing.

McKinley Middle School was on lockdown after a student reported that she thought she saw another student with a gun outside the school.

They lockdown lasted a total of 20 minutes from about 3:30 to 3:50 p.m.

Sgt. Rick Toeller, of the Racine Police Department, said that shortly before 3:30 p.m. a student was looking out the window of a classroom and thought she saw another student outside the school with weapon, but she couldn’t be sure.

“She reported it to school officials and the school was locked down as a precaution,” Toeller said.

School personnel called the police and searched the area, but no one was found, Toeller said.

“It’s fortunate that this wasn’t a serious incident and it was a good exercise because the practices worked as they should,” he said. “No one could get in or out of the building for student safety.”

At about 4 p.m., police were leaving the school, and students were going home.

What gun? There was no gun. Just a kid's imagination! @Ron...Then only the bad guys will have guns. Yes I know same old tired argument, but it is a fact!

I wonder what 'breaking news' will occur today that will prompt Denise to finally change (rather than remove) the orange banner. 'Breaking news' is when a story is new and and the situation is still developing or changing. When nothing new has happened with the story for several hours, it should no longer be tagged as 'breaking news'...
