Names of Suspects from Weekend Chase Released

Police in Elgin, Illinois, have released the names of two men accused of burglary and battery of a police officer.

The names of two men from Illinois have been released after they led police from several jurisdictions on a 100-mile chase over the weekend.

Jacob Braden, 22, of Bartlett, and Kevin Gorman, 30, of Streamwood, will appear in Racine County Circuit Court Monday to face charges that could include receiving stolen property, eluding a police officer and exceeding speeds greater than 65 miles per hour.

Wisconsin State troopers at 4 a.m. Saturday received an attempt to locate request from the Illinois State Patrol for a grey Chevrolet Silverado. Sgt. Wendy Younglove of the Wisconsin State Patrol said an officer caught sight of the truck just south of the state line and began a pursuit.

Deputies from the Kenosha County Sheriff joined the chase in an attempt to get the driver - later identified as Braden - to stop, but he continued north on I-94 into Racine County. Finally, Racine County deputies deployed a spike strip near the Highway KR exit, which punctured a tire on the Silverado and brought it to a stop on the off-ramp at Highway 11.

Elgin, Illinois, police have much more serious charges waiting for the pair. The Journal Times is reporting that Braden is facing the following charges: burglary; two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer; criminal damage to state-supported property; and two counts of aggravated fleeing and eluding.

The battery counts are the result of Braden driving away while one Elgin officer was trying to take Gorman into custody while he was half-way in the truck. Police say that as Braden drove away, he knocked the officer out of the truck and onto the ground. A second officer was struck as was an Elgin squad car.

Neither officer was seriously injured.

Gorman is facing a burglary charge; aggravated resisting arrest; and criminal damage to state-supported property.

Both suspects are expected to be extradicted to Illinois at some point.
