Mount Pleasant Police Negotiate with Man Barricaded in Home with Children

Police say the suspect was drunk and broke into his ex-girlfriend's house.

Police successfully negotiated what could have been an ugly hostage situation in the overnight hours of Nov. 2.

According to a written release, officers responded to a call in the 2100 block of Mead Street at 2:35 am stating that Alejandro Rodriguez, 54, had broken into the victim's home. He was reportedly drunk and armed with a knife that he threatened to use to kill the victim.

Somehow, the caller got away and ran to a neighbor's house to dial 9-1-1.

When police arrived, however, Rodriguez was barricaded inside the home with four young children. After negotiating with him for about an hour, Rodriguez peacefully surrendered to police. There were no injuries associated with this incident.

The suspect is being held on a $18,150 bail in the Racine County Jail on one count of second degree recklessly endangering safety, one count of burglary, eight counts of bail jumping and at least one count of disorderly conduct while armed/domestic abuse related.
