No Joke: Man Charged After Running From Mount Pleasant Police

Suspect chuckled about his attempt to escape, saying he isn't fast because he's a smoker.

A 22-year-old Racine man is facing charges after he ran from Mount Pleasant police officers Wednesday, then having a laugh about his ability to run faster than them.

Christopher L. Rolle was charged in Racine County Circuit Court Wednesday with one count of obstructing an officer. If  convicted, he faces up to nine months in prison and $10,000 in fines.

On Wednesday, officers went to a residence in the 2100 block of Racine Street after they were contacted by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections to take Rolle into custody for an arrest warrant pending against him. When they arrived at the home an employee of Genesis Behavioral Health Services was already there, telling officers he was also called to the home by DOC.

While approaching the home, Rolle emerged on a front balcony and the Genesis employee told him to come down for a talk. Rolle said he was someone else, then went inside only to dart out moments later and run from officers on foot.

Rolle ran down 21st Street, then eastbound towards Mead Street, where he then ran northbound. He then ran between some houses in the 2000 block of Mead Street where he was unable to escape a high fence and tried to hide behind some vegetation.

Rolle was then taken into custody and while walking back to a squad car, chuckled and said “I gave you a run for you money." Then he reportedly said he can’t run real fast because he’s a smoker.

He’s currently being held in Racine County Jail on $300 bond.
