Homeless Man Accused of Stealing From Walmart

Police say suspect admitted to the thefts, saying he did it because he's hungry.

A homeless man accused of stealing items from Walmart on multiple occasions.

Sean D. Humpa, 21, was charged in Racine County Circuit Court Friday with two counts of retail theft, one count of carrying a concealed weapon, four counts of bail jumping and possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted, he faces up to 64 months in prison and $80,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint, at 6:30 a.m. Oct. 16, Mount Pleasant police were called to Walmart after security officers said Humpa came into the store and stole a Samsung tablet valued at $398. Security said Humpa also came into the store at 2:57 a.m., walking around and placing things by a backpack while  smoking a cigarette.

He took the tablet just before police were called, then walked down a nearby hill away from the store.

At 11:09 a.m. Thursday, officers were called back to the store after staff said they caught him trying to steal $107 in goods. Humpa had an X-Acto knife in his pocket and said he stole the items because he’s homeless and hungry.

He will make his initial appearance in court Oct. 29.
