Child Sex Assault Suspect Claims Confusion, Police Say

A Mount Pleasant man told police he was going through a lot in his life and wasn't sure what he was doing when he touched a 13-year-old girl inappropriately.

After allegedly touching a young girl inappropriately and trying to kiss her, a 49-year-old Mount Pleasant man told police he was having a hard time in his life and gets mixed up easily.

Aslam Asari was charged Tuesday in Racine County Circuit Court with one count of second degree sexual assault of a child under the age of 16. If convicted, he faces up to 40 years in jail and/or up to $100,000 in fines.Β

According to the criminal complaint, Asari was at the girl's home in Racine on May 2, 2012 when the incident took place. The girl told Racine police that Asari forcibly tried to kiss her and touch her breasts.

The defendant admitted to officers that he tried to kiss the girl, but she turned her head, the complaint reads. Asari claims, though, that the girl didn't refuse him touching her.

Still, police say he told them he has a lot going on his life and sometimes gets confused.

Asari had a $20,000 warrant issued for his arrest when he didn't show up for court last year, but the warrant was vacated when he answered the summons for an adjourned initial appearance on Feb. 19.

He was assigned a $5,000 signature bond at his initial appearance Tuesday with conditions that he not have contact with the girl or any minor children. Asari is also on GPS monitoring and only allowed to attend court, meetings with his attorney and medical or mental health appointments.

Asari will next be in court on March 20 for a preliminary hearing.
