Child Porn Defendant Pleads Not Guilty for Jailhouse Fight

Alexander Richter was charged with battery after jail staff say he punched another inmate in the face over the dayroom television.

Alexander Richter appeared in court Thursday to plead not guilty to battery and disorderly conduct charges after police say he started a fight in a dayroom of the Racine County Jail.

According to the criminal complaint, corrections officers on July 28 were patrolling a wing of the Racine County Jail when they observed Richter punching another inmate in the face.

Orders to stop were ignored until officers pulled a taser, the complaint reads.

Officers say both Richter and the other man said the fight started because of a dispute over the television. Richter said the other man threatened him, but that man said Richter was the aggressor.

If convicted of these charges, Richter faces six years, three months in jail and/or up to $11,000 in fines on top of the more than 1,000 years in prison he faces if convicted of the 49 child pornography and sexual assault charges filed last November.

Richter will next be in court Friday for a status conference on the child porn charges. His jury trial is scheduled to begin Jan. 27.

His next court date on the battery charges is Sept. 27. He remains in the Racine County Jail on a total $1,501,000 cash bond for all charges in both cases.
