Big Haul at Walmart Leads to Big Charges, Police Say

Woman, 27, is caught allegedly trying to steal nearly $1,000 worth of goods from Walmart Saturday.

After first trying to tell police that she was going to get her wallet and then saying her children's father made her do it, a 27-year-old Racine woman allegedly tried to shoplift a big haul Saturday from Walmart.

Vanessa L. Marcucci was charged in Racine County Circuit Court Monday with one count of felony retail theft. If convicted, she faces up to 3 ½ years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint, at 5:16 p.m. Mount Pleasant police officers were called to the store after security officers spotted Marcucci grabbing a large number of items and placing them in two shopping carts. She then tried to leave the store with the carts, but was stopped.

Officers said they found an anxious and distraught Marcucci inside an office at the store, where she first said she was just going out to get her wallet, even though she had purse with her with $332 inside of it. She reportedly told police she stole the items for herself, then said the father of her children makes her go out and steal.

There were 113 items in the carts, including toys, cosmetics and toiletries, according to police reports. The items were valued at $956.
