The Racine Police Department is asking for the public's help apprehending the man who robbed Landmark Credit Union at gunpoint Tuesday afternoon.
According to a press release from RPD, a man wielding a handgun approached a teller at the Grove Avenue location shortly after noon and demanded money. He was given an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing on foot, going east toward West Blvd.
Witnesses describe the suspect as:
- Tall, black male
- Wearing black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black shoes
This is the second armed robbery of a Landmark Credit Union. Just yesterday, two men - one with a silver handgun - robbed the Mount Pleasant branch on Washington Avenue.
Sgt. Martin Pavalonis of the Racine Police Department told Patch that investigators are working with Landmark to secure any surveillance video if any exists. He also expects to work with Mount Pleasant police if applicable since there are similarities between the two incidents.
"There are some obvious similarities with these two recent robberies, but we are very early in this investigation," he wrote in an email. "The Racine PD has a worked closely with the Mount Pleasant Police Department on numerous investigations and, if the incidents are related, this robbery investigation would be no different."
Both the RPD and MPPD ask anyone with any information to leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers by calling 262-636-9330, or by texting RACS plus the message to CRIMES (274637).
