3rd Time's the Charm: Young Woman Charged with Possession

A young woman staying at a relative's house while he's out of state faces possession charges after marijuana was found in her room.

A Mount Pleasant man watching a friend's house while the friend is out of state called police to report a burglary, and the relative staying at the house ended up charged with possession of THC.

Amber Blask, 19, of Racine was charged Monday in Racine County Circuit Court with a felony count of possession of THC, 2nd and subsequent offense, and one felony count of bail jumping. If convicted, she faces up to 9-1/2 years in jail and/or up to $20,000 in fines. Because she is considered a repeat offender, Blask could get additional jail time added to any potential sentence.

Blask was out on bond from another possession charge filed against her last October.

According to the criminal complaint, Mount Pleasant police were called by a friend to the home of a man who is out of state for a few months. The friend told police that he was asked to check on the man's residence periodically and that Blask had permission to be there as long as she didn't have any visitors.

Police reports indicate the friend noticed several visitors to the home in the 8300 block of Gittings Road, some of whom stayed for longer periods of time. When the friend went to have a look around at the request of the homeowner, the friend noticed several items were missing. The man requested his friend call police and make a formal burglary complaint.

Officers who responded to the residence say the friend told them he found empty packages of K2 in the bathroom garbage and that police had the homeowner's permission to search the house for any illegal substances.

During the search, police say Blask was present so when they found a glass pipe with charred ends and another empty package of K2 in her room, she admitted they were hers. The bag of marijuana officers found inside a cell phone box, though, wasn't hers, Blask reportedly said.

She was taken into custody and booked on possession and bail jumping charges. In court Monday, Blask was assigned a $1,000 cash bond with the conditions that she submit to random urinalysis tests and report for testing after each court appearance. She will next be in court on March 21 for a preliminary hearing.
