Longtime Sturtevant Resident Loved Being with Nieces and Nephews

Paul Lekas was an active member of the Racine community.

Paul Lekas, 81, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare/All Saints. He was born in Holland, MI, on Jan. 22, 1930 to the late Peter and Maggie (nee: Kammeraad) Lekas. He lived most of his life in the Racine area. He was united in marriage to the former Marjorie J. Olson in Racine on Feb. 18, 1956. He was a parcel post handler at the State Street Post Office for about 30 years.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, lifetime member of the Elks Club, Moose Lodge and German Club. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing, bowling and traveling. He was well known in the Racine community, where he loved socializing with family and friends.

Family meant so much to Paul, even though he never had children of his own, he was very close to his nieces and nephews. With his wife, Marge, he attended many of their school functions and was especially proud of their musical talents. He never missed family times together.

He will be deeply missed by two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Lorraine Lekas, Mary (Norm) Johnson; six nieces and nephews, Diane (Jim) Haase, Gary (DeAnn) Lekas, John (Connie) Johnson, Rebecca Johnson (Lori Elkins), Nancy (Donald) Rice, Jackie (Larry) Curty,  other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; brother, Robert Lekas; sister and brother-in-law, Mary (Stephen) Olsen; nephews, Robert Lekas, Jr, Steven Olsen, Jr and Thomas Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home 1212 Lathrop Ave, on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Brad Van Fossem officiating. Interment will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Graceland Cemetery. Friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Memorials in memory of Paul to the Racine Moose Lodge or a charity of ones choice have been suggested

The family would like to thank the owners and staff at Driftwood Restaurant in Sturtevant, along with Paul’s many friends at Killarney Kourt Apartments, especially Alvera Van Brunt.
