Mt Pleasant Board Meeting Recording for July 8, 2013

This is a recording of the open meeting portion of the Mt. Pleasant Village Trustees.  It was recorded July 8, 2013 at 7pm.

At one level, the meeting was about what was scheduled in the agenda.  At a different level 3 trustees were concerned about the process of how things were being done at the Village.  Specifically, you will hear Gary Feest raise his concerns about the power the Village President is exercising.  You will hear Don Schultz raise concerns of not having much information provided to the trustees prior to going into closed session to discuss the hiring of a new Village Clerk, Treasurer.

Two trustees did not attend the closed session while five did.  The trustees who did not attend were Jerry Garski and Don Schultz.  They stayed behind talking to people in the auditorium.  Some thought the closed session was illegal.  All three trustees, Garski, Schultz and Feest thought before the closed session started that the new Clerk Treasurer would end up being Stephanie Kohlgagen.

Those present in the closed session returned to open session actually voted to hire Stephanie Kohlhagen as the new Village of Mt. Pleasant clerk, Treasurer.  Her salary was set at $60,000 with benefits.  Garski and Schultz abstained and Feest voted no to the hiring.

This struggle of process has been going on since the new board was elected.  In this recording, you will hear Gary Feest make his case with the Presidents reply.  Which side do you favor?

The struggle is obvious.  In his eyes, President Gleason is trying to move the Village forward while those not agreeing with his process believe they are not being allowed to properly represent their citizens not to mention losing out on voting for potentially better candidates for employment.  What do you think?
