Short Intoduction to Matts Produce

An Introduction to Matts Produce. Our sweet corn has now gone to 20 + different states. It has even been sent to Alaska.

I'm Joe from Matts Produce. I farm with one of my brothers here in Mt. Pleasant. We are a small 3rd generation farm.

My grandparents started around 1926. My grandparents would raise produce, sell chickens, eggs and make butter then sell some of it to local corner stores in town. In 1999 we transitioned from raising livestock back to growing produce. We started out selling our produce to Parkside Produce. Parkside Produce was always recognized for their quality produce. Glenn Knutsen, one of the owners, was always willing to guide and give advice in the years that we knew him.

In 1999 my Dad got Matt (then 10 yrs old) started selling sweet corn out by the road. As the years have gone by, our little roadside stand has grown little by little. Each year we try to learn from our mistakes. Not always an easy task. All we can do is try our best. We must be making some progress though. For those of you who aren't familiar with us, in 2007-08 we were voted best sweet corn and given an honorable mention of best produce in the "Journal Time" Best of Racine and in 2011 we were voted best in 3 categories.   Well... Time to get back to planting more pepper seed. Turned the heat on in the greenhouse yesterday.
