Outstanding Success in Inclusion Classrooms

Have you ever turned your head to the idea of your child being in an inclusion room?  Four teachers set out to prove that inclusion classrooms are just as challenging as any other classroom.

During the 2011-2012 school year, two fifth grade inclusion rooms at Gifford Elementary School had their students write and illustrate their own picture books.  The classes each voted for the top ten books.  Then, the teachers submitted the books into the WASB (Wisconsin Association of School Boards) contest. 

The contest has six divisions based on grade level. Over the summer, the results came back from the contest.  Two Gifford students won for our division out of three winners total. One student from Mrs. Brusky’s class, Ashley, won third place in the fourth and fifth grade division.  One student from Mrs. Yonkovich’s class, Alyson, won first place in our division.  Alyson was invited to a recognition dinner where WASB’s executive director and president congratulated her for her outstanding talent. The contest has hundreds of applicants from all over the state of Wisconsin, so this a great accomplishment for our students.

This is one of many success stories that have and will continue to take place in all classrooms.  Teachers work hard to meet the needs of all of the children.  Every child can be successful.
