Racine COPs Partner with Park High School on New Sign

Washington Park Tech Ed students will have one heck of a moment of pride Monday when the sign they designed is installed at the 6th Street Racine COP house (Community Oriented Policing).

Students and their teachers, Tom Stapleman and Talia Prince, along with Racine Police Chief Art Howell and County Executive Jim Ladwig will be on hand to watch the installation of the sign.

The project was the idea of Prince, a special ed teacher at Park, but instead of having kids just design the sign, she wanted to expand the partnership to help continue building a bridge between the police and high school students.

So, this fall one of Prince's students who also participates in the School to Work program will begin volunteering at the 6th Street COP house, 1522 W. 6th Street. This will be the first time a high school student will serve as a volunteer in a COP house.

"The Racine Police Department is excited for the opportunity to partner with the school, youth and our officers," said RAPD Sgt. Jessie Metoyer in a press release. "This partnership will help further the mission of the Racine Police Department and build stronger relationships between the students and the police."
