More Charges Expected For Accused Text Stalker

Racine County DA Rich Chiapete expects additional charges against accused text stalker William Crockett.

Accused text stalker William Crockett is expected to face additional charges for stalking a number of people primarily by text message.

Racine County District Attorney and Sheriff Chris Schmaling held a press conference Thursday to stress that they want to hear from anyone who may be the victim of repeated and unwanted text messages of a threatening or sexual nature.

"We are still deep in the investigation and we're trying to get victims to come forward," Schmaling said. "Our lead investigator on this ... Their phone is ringing off the hook."

Neither Chiapete nor Schmaling would say how Crockett learned about the people he contacted, but Chiapete did note that a search warrant was served on Crockett's Mt. Pleasant Street residence, including any telephones.

"We are hoping to have information about how or if (Crockett) knew his victims and how he got their information," he said.

There was also no confirmation that the almost two dozen known victims are all women.

"At this point we want anyone who has received repeated and unwanted messages that were inappropriate, threatening or sexual in nature to call our office," Schmaling said. "There is a clear difference between one time and when the messages are repeated and not stopping."

Crockett was charged Wednesday with four felony counts of stalking and one misdemeanor count of unlawful use of using a computer to send threatening messages. He remains in the Racine County Jail on a $75,000 cash bond.

Anyone who feels they may be an alleged victim of Crockett is asked to call the Racine County Sheriff's Department at (262) 636-3323.
