Holiday Train Pulls Into Sturtevant Saturday

The entire community is invited Saturday to bring donations of food and/or money for the Racine County Food Bank to the CP Rail Holiday Train in Sturtevant.

Santa pulls into Sturtevant Saturday accompanied by live musical entertainment on a brightly wrapped, full-size locomotive.

The CP Rail Holiday Train is set to arrive at 5:55 p.m. at the Amtrak Depot in the Renaissance Business Park to help support cash and food donations to the Racine County Food Bank.

In 2011, the train passed Sturtevant, and a group of officials from both Mount Pleasant and Sturtevant stepped up to host a holiday food drive in its place. But in .

"We'll arrive when it's dark so the train will be fully lit up," she said. "We're happy to return to Sturtevant to help give back to the communities we travel through every day," said Christine Short, a CP Rail representative.

Village President Steve Jansen is pleased the train is returning. 2011 was the first year in 10 years that the train did not stop in Sturtevant.

"We are pleased that the Sturtevant stop was included in the Holiday Train schedule this year. This is a great event for Sturtevant and for the whole Racine
community," he said in a written statement. "We invite everyone to bring a food donation and come down, see the Holiday Train and listen to some great entertainment.”

Parking for the train will be available for free in the Amtrak lot, in the lot of Dental Associates, and along Renaissance Blvd. and Enterprise Drive as well. Folks should expect to walk and dress appropriately for the weather.
