Carlson Roofing Celebrates 100 Years By Donating Money For Sheriff's K9

For Carlson Roofing's 100th anniversary, Owner and President Fred Petersen said he was looking for a way to give back to the community.

"I saw that the Sheriff's Department needed a new K9 so I thought that was a great way to celebrate and give back," he said Thursday during a K9 demonstration and formal announcement at Carlson.

Carlsons total donation comes to $12,500 and will be added to the $5,000 donation the RCSO received last month.

The cost of a K9 is about $17,000 and includes a six-week training with its human partner in North Carolina, said Sheriff Chris Schmaling.

Schmaling said he has posted for the new K9 position and expects the new partners to meet by the beginning of October.

Ultimately, Schmaling said, he'd like to have a K9 on duty for every shift.
