Physical Therapy and Rehab Specialists of Kenosha Promoted Friendly Competition in 1st Skills Challenge; Held Business After 5 Program

The weather isn’t the only thing heating up in Southeastern Wisconsin lately. Physical Therapy and Rehab Specialists of Kenosha (PTRS Kenosha) turned up the heat on Thursday, April 3, 2014 through their first Skills Challenge event. Working alongside of the Kenosha Area Chamber of Commerce through their Business After 5 Event, the team at PTRS Kenosha tested the skill level of local community members and business owners.

As like any other Business After 5 Program, the event offered plenty of networking and socializing opportunities, but it was the Skills Challenge that offered an extra touch. Attendees who participated enjoyed a little bit of friendly competition. The Challenge tested participants in 5 areas:

-  Agility: how many line jumps were made in 40 seconds

- Balance: tossing and catching a ball while standing on one leg

- Hand-eye Coordination: participation in an indoor golf putting green

- Shoulder-Stability: how many times a ball could be thrown and caught overhead using non-dominant hand

- Fine Motor Skills: placing pegs as quickly as possible into a board

“One thing that I thought was really fun for contestants was the fact that not only were they getting exercise, but they were participating in rehabilitation activities. A lot of people don’t realize how much physical therapy encompasses and how it can benefit them,” said Clinic Operator and Director Jeanette De Witt, PT, MPT, LAT, ATC.

Beyond the skills challenge, participants were also encouraged to test their grip strength and compare their strength level to a toddler, high school athlete and 40-year old individual. And of course, no event is complete without a delicious food spread. “I would like to give a special thanks to Derango’s for being an additional sponsor and providing food and beverage for the event. Everything was delicious,” De Witt said.

At the end of the night, a brief ceremony was held and medals were awarded to the top scoring teams and individuals in the Skills Challenge. The winners held their heads high (and may have giggled) while standing upon pedestals. “This was truly a great event and I look forward to doing it again in future years,” stated De Witt. The practice looks forward to their next event on June 19, 2014, where community members are invited to attend their fun-filled and family-friendly open house.
