SC Johnson Hosting Public Meeting about Wind Turbines

The company wants to generate 100 percent of its power for their Waxdale plant on-site.

Wind turbines to power Waxdale, the SC Johnson plant in , may soon be part of the local skyline.

Residents are invited to a public hearing at 5:30 pm on Tues., Oct. 11, at in Sturtevant to listen to a presentation from company officials.

According to a press release from the company, SC Johnson plans to build two or three turbines to produce renewable energy for its Waxdale plant, which is the size of 36 football fields. Eventually, all of Waxdale's power will be produced on-site with 60 percent of it from renewable energy.

“Today nearly 40 percent of the company’s worldwide electricity comes from renewable energy, and we’re committed to making even greater progress,” said Fisk Johnson, Chairman and CEO, SC Johnson in the release. “Wind turbines at Waxdale, right here in the backyard of our corporate headquarters, is one of the many ways we are working to further reduce our environmental footprint.”

Representatives from SC Johnson are also scheduled to make a presentation before the Continual Committee at 6 pm the same day at Sturtevant Village Hall.
