Mount Pleasant-Sturtevant Patchers are Invited to a Free Real Estate Seminar

Anyone interested in a possible new career can visit the free seminar to explore their options.

With unemployment in Mount Pleasant at seven percent and at about nine percent in Sturtevant, but at nearly 15 percent in the City of Racine, a lot of people are thinking it’s time for a new career.

The folks at Shorewest think they might see a decent crowd at their Real Estate Career Seminar, which will be held at 5:15 pm tomorrow, April 18, at the Shorewest office. Candidates can register online here or call 414-476-1231.

“Real estate is a career right now that really has wonderful opportunities,” said Racine Shorewest Sales Director Fritz Cape. “The licensing process takes a couple months and then people are ready to go.”

Realtor candidates in the state of Wisconsin need to take a 72 hour pre-licensing course, which can be taken in person at the Shorewest office in Brookfield, online, or as a self-directed home study. Then, the candidate must pass the state exam and pay for a license.

Cape said they’re offering the pre-licensing course for $195 through the end of April, because they “don’t regard it as a profit center.”

As the Mount Pleasant-Sturtevant area recovers from the recession along with the rest of the country, some people might regard real estate as a less-than-promising career option. But Cape said his office is getting busier by the day.

“Sales are picking up,” he said. “We do have a number of very well priced properties and financing is extremely attractive right now.”

Cape is right: real estate sales in Racine County overall are slowing picking up, with the first quarter of this year up 18.2 percent compared to 2010. Shorewest’s current properties in the Mount Pleasant-Sturtevant area range from a $664,990 home at 6433 Lincolnshire Drive to a $69,900 home at 7932 Santa Mary Court.

And overall, the unemployment picture in Mount Pleasant is improving. At Monday’s real estate career night, attendees will learn how to get a real estate license, what a realtor does, and the investment required; a few hundred dollars for the course, exam and license.

Cape said the main thing a person needs to succeed in real estate is motivation.

“I look at our roster of successful agents, and they don’t have anything in common except a degree of self-motivation and responsibility for their own success,” he said.
