Cherry Berry Frozen Yogurt on the House on Opening Day

We have berry good news! A shop featuring frozen yogurt flavors finished by a myriad of tasty toppings is expected to open around Thanksgiving. And opening day means free yogurt for all!

Frozen yogurt shop Cherry Berry is the final tenant for the Shops of Mount Pleasant, and it is expected to open its doors sometime around Thanksgiving.

The store is taking the space between Mattress Firm and U.S. Cellular at the corner of Highways 11 and 31.

Tom Wilcox, franchise owner of a handful of Cherry Berry locations in Wisconsin, said he's been looking at the Racine-area market for some time, and believes he has found the best spot.

"We're really looking forward to coming to Mount Pleasant," he said. "We're going to have fantastic neighbors and really could not have found a more perfect location."

Cherry Berry is self-serve frozen yogurt with up to 14 flavors available at a time and 50 different toppings from which to choose. Customers pay 45 cents an ounce so prices are determined by how much customers want.

Wilcox said he is looking for a local, career-oriented manager and up to a dozen or so part-time employees.

Asked what sets Cherry Berry apart from other frozen yogurts chains, Wilcox said their yogurt has real, live active cultures and is delivered frozen and almost ready to serve.

"Our yogurt does not come in a powder that needs to be mixed with water or milk in a machine," he explained. "We get our yogurt delivered frozen and then we put it in our refrigerators to thaw for a couple of days and then it goes into the dispenser."

Because of the cultures, Cherry Berry is also the healthier option, Wilcox added.

"Our bodies need probiotics as part of a healthy digestive system," he said. "That's the big difference."

Logan Martin, community development coordinator for Mount Pleasant, said Cherry Berry is the capstone tenant for the Shops.

"We're very happy to welcome Cherry Berry to the village," he said. "They are the final tenant to finish the redevelopment of the former Village Hall site."

The store's official address will be 2860 S. Green Bay Road, and operating hours will be 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. weekends.

A note about opening day Wilcox wants to be sure everyone knows: everything is free. Not sample sizes or just a couple of flavors with select toppings; everything.

"We want people to eat as much as they want on us that first day," he said. "And we do that because we know they'll be back. Our friends and fans are very devoted."
