An employee of Porcaro Ford died Friday after he was seriously injured when the motorcycle he was riding slammed into a van in the parking lot of the dealership.

**Updated 7:30 a.m. Sept. 15

The young man gravely injured in a motorcycle accident Friday afternoon has died.

Mount Pleasant police confirmed Saturday that Ryan Herman, 20, of Caledonia, passed away as a result of his injuries.

According to posts on the Racine Uncovered Facebook page, he was a graduate of Horlick High School.

Former classmate Jordan Buth posted Friday night about organizing a motorcycle ride in honor of Herman and to raise awareness about safe driving with motorcycles on the road.

"It only feels right to have a ride for Ryan Herman," he wrote. "Whomever would want to ride for Ryan please let me know. I would like to try to bring more awareness to all of us motorcycle riders. We are still on the road!!!!

The accident happened around 1:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Porcaro Ford, where Herman was an employee. MPPD says a van may have turned in front of Herman's motorcycle.

Herman suffered significant head trauma, according to South Shore Battalion Chief John Radewan.

Flight for Life was called to meet the ambulance at Wheaton Franciscan St. Mary's.

A witness at the scene said he didn't see the accident, but he did help lift the van off of Herman, who was reportedly going on his lunch break.

"I just heard that a guy was twisted up underneath the van so we came out to help," he told Patch. The man didn't want to give his name.

Kevin Farnsworth was in his Flloyd's tow truck behind the van as it pulled into the Porcaro lot. He said it appeared to him that the van driver was looking at another car to be sure that vehicle didn't pull out. Herman was coming from somewhere in the back of the lot when the van turned in front of him.

"There was a small, red car in the aisle maybe ready to exit, I don't know," Farnsworth said. "I think the van driver was looking at that car to be sure the driver didn't pull out in front. I'm sure the van driver didn't even see the motorcycle because the van turned right in front of the motorcycle and that's when the bike hit the van."

A Mount Pleasant police officer told Patch at the scene it was unlikely the driver of the van - Joseph G. Schack, 54, of Milwaukee - would be issued any citations because the accident occurred in on private property. Schack was uninjured.

The accident remains under investigation.
