Your Guide To The Racine Theatre Guild 2011-12 Season

This is your guide for the 74th season of the , 2519 Northwestern Ave. Below is a list of the shows on the 2011-2012 playbill, listed in order by date, as well as information about show times, ticket prices and more.

Ticket prices: $15 to $17 for plays, $17 to $19 for musical; all prices depend on show time and date. Discounts are available for seniors, students, subscribers and groups. Season tickets also available.

Box office hours: Monday through Friday, 12 to 6 p.m., or email boxoffice@racinetheatre.org  Tickets also are sold at the door starting 90 minutes before a performance through intermission. Tickets also are available online at www.racinetheatre.org. (Coupons and discounts cannot be applied to online orders.)

Oct. 14 to 23:

“Doubt: A Parable” (by John Patrick Shanley)

The critically acclaimed movie starring Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman was based on this award-winning play, which won the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony for Best Play. A gripping mystery, this story starts with stern Sister Aloysius, a Bronx school principal, who suspects the charismatic Father Flynn of improper relations with a male student. Is he innocent or guilty? The play examines the line between gossip and truth, discipline and compassion, certainty and . . . DOUBT.

Step into a world of “Pure Imagination” with Willy Wonka, the world-famous and reclusive candy man who has invited five lucky children to tour his magical, mystical chocolate factory. They all won golden tickets, but only one will become his heir. Relive the songs from the classic family film “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” including “Pure Imagination,” “The Candy Man” and “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket.”

Socialite Florence Foster Jenkins had a passion for singing, but a voice that left audiences in stitches. Dubbed the “Diva of Din,” she made bizarre recordings and gave unbelievable recitals in small venues before conquering Carnegie Hall. This comedy tells the true and endearing story of the joyful Ms. Jenkins and her devoted – and almost equally eccentric – friends.

The world’s greatest detective is contemplating retirement! But the plan changes when a case too tempting to ignore presents itself. See if you can unfold the mystery as a king is about to be blackmailed over a notorious photograph. With the trusted Dr. Watson at his side, Holmes pursues first the case and, then, the affections of opera singer Irene Adler, the woman at the heart of the crime. It will all lead him into the lair of his adversary the infamous Professor Moriarty.

May 11 to 27, 2012:

“Chicago” (book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse; music by John Kander; lyrics by Fred Ebb)

The season ends in “Chicago” in the roaring 1920s with star-struck Roxie Hart, who kills her lover and lands in jail. In the slammer, she meets another merry murderess, showgirl Velma Kelly. The two vie for the spotlight – and the headlines – until they join forces to seek fame, fortune and acquittal. The memorable “All That Jazz” is just one the songs that propelled the play’s 1996 production to won six Tony Awards and made it one of the longest running musical revivals on Broadway.
