Holiday Train Returns to Sturtevant

The CP Rail Holiday Train has Sturtevant on its 2013 tour schedule. All donations collected that night benefit the Racine County Food Bank.

It's official: Santa will pull into Sturtevant once again, accompanied by live musical entertainment on a brightly wrapped, full-size locomotive.

The brightly "wrapped" train will pull into the Sturtevant Amtrak Depot at approximately 5:45 on Dec. 4.

Canadian Pacific alerted village officials Thursday in an email to Village President Steve Jansen.

"Canadian Pacific (CP) is delighted to announce that the CP Holiday Train will once again be making a stop in your community," wrote Brenda Rivera, community events organizer for the railroad. "This year is particularly exciting, as we celebrate the 15th anniversary of this unique program."

The annual CP Rail Holiday Train tour through the Upper Midwest helps draw attention to the need of local food banks. All food and cash donations collected at the stop stay with the Racine County Food Bank.

"I think it's awesome and always a great time for the community," Jansen said. "It's a win-win for everyone; neighbors have a great time and the food bank gets the help it needs."

Over 1,100 people cheered the train in 2012 and donated $2,800 in cash and 2,164 pounds of food. The Holiday Train has been stopping in Sturtevant for over 10 years, bypassing the village only once in 2011.
