Now that the new building is complete and department personnel have officially moved in, the South Shore Fire Department is ready to show off its new spaces to area residents. The official open house is slated from 1 to 4 pm, Sat., May 14 at the new station, 3900 Old Green Bay Road.
Congressman Paul Ryan's visits to Sturtevant and Racine were noteworthy because of how they were similar more than how they might have been different. Both audiences supported Ryan's service to the area, though the Sturtevant turnout was much more supportive overall while residents in Racine were more vocal about their disagreement.
Residents from throughout the community gathered at Baskin Robbins on Washington Avenue last night, April 27, to take advantage of 31-cent ice cream cones, but they were also there to enjoy the sense of community, learn about fire safety with the South Shore Fire Department, and help the families of fallen firefighters. According to Jenny Wasinack, 15 percent of the evening proceeds would go toward the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. Baskin Robbins plans to donate $100,000 to the organization.

The new offices for the Mount Pleasant Police Department include a new roll call room, fully equipped locker room, and a more secure set-up for bringing in suspects. Interrogation and interview rooms are all wired for sound and video with direct recording to a central location, and investigators now have their own desks in a designated section. "We're very happy with the set up here," said Captain Brian Smith.
The new Mount Pleasant Village Hall is now open. While there is still some last-minute work that needs completing, municipal staff is in place.
