The Marketplace Fairness Act, which passed 69-27 in the U.S. Senate on Tuesday, allows states the authority, and option, of collecting taxes on Internet and catalog sales. The act does not create a new tax. But it does allow states the option of collecting the taxes, which they are already owed. However, the legislation does exempt small businesses that make less than $1 million from collecting the tax. U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) voted for the bill, but Sen. Crews are working to take down the old Johnson Bank building on Highway 20 in front of Xperience Fitness to make way for a new Panda Express restaurant.
Construction on the new Panda Express has begun. Crews were spotted Thursday morning inside a newly erected chain link fence to start the demolition of the old Johnson Bank building. The Chinese restaurant originally was to have been built and open for operation by the end of 2012, but property transfers indicate Panda Express closed on the sale of the bank building in February. Representatives with Panda told Patch last year that a build typically takes three months so that would put opening day sometime this summer.
