Sturtevant Porch Light Project - Fall Event

Our village was shocked into the 21st century in 2009 by having its first gang related murder happen.

This opened our eyes and made each one of us take a better look at how secure our Village is. One thing that I have noticed is that people do not keep their porch lights on at night. According to the US Justice Department, one of the easiest ways to help reduce the chance that your house is burglarized is to have a lit porch light. Criminals don’t like to be seen committing their crime and will move on if your porches are lit, and if those of your neighbors are also on.

Now in 2012, there are still crimes happening in our Village despite the best efforts of our Police Department.

In order to assist residents in “lighting up” their neighborhoods, the Sturtevant Porchlight Project is fortunate to have the chance to partner again with We Energies to offer CFL's to all residents for use in their front porch lights. They generously donated $500.00 for the cost of the CFL’s.

The bulbs will be available to all residents of Racine County on a first come, first served basis November 17th, 2012 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM  (or until the bulbs run out) in conjunction with the Electronic Recycling Event held at Farm and Fleet/Fountain Hall parking lot.

The cost to light a CFL bulb in a porch light overnight is $4.80 per year. Isn’t the safety of your family and neighborhood worth $4.80 per year?

Many thanks to We Energies, Milwaukee Light Bulb Company, Farm and Fleet. Fountain Hall,  Sturtevant’s Public Safety Committee and the Sturtevant PD and DPW for all their support and assistance.

If you have any questions about the Sturtevant Porchlight Project, please contact Chris Larsen at larsenc@sturtevant-wi.gov.

Stay safe tonight, turn on your light!

Thanks Chris! Nice job spearheading this the past few years! How many lightbulbs would you guess have been given out with this program since the start?

@Bald Eagle, if we exhaust the amount we have for Saturday, we would have given out over 1500 light bulbs to the residents of Sturtevant and Racine County since the Project has started.

I wanted to thank everyone who came out. We had such a huge turnout that we were out of bulbs by 12:30! I look forward to doing this again Spring 2013!
