Short Intoduction to Matts Produce

I'm Joe from Matts Produce. I farm with one of my brothers here in Mt. Pleasant. We are a small 3rd generation farm.

My grandparents started around 1926. My grandparents would raise produce, sell chickens, eggs and make butter then sell some of it to local corner stores in town. In 1999 we transitioned from raising livestock back to growing produce. We started out selling our produce to Parkside Produce. Parkside Produce was always recognized for their quality produce. Glenn Knutsen, one of the owners, was always willing to guide and give advice in the years that we knew him.

In 1999 my Dad got Matt (then 10 yrs old) started selling sweet corn out by the road. As the years have gone by, our little roadside stand has grown little by little. Each year we try to learn from our mistakes. Not always an easy task. All we can do is try our best. We must be making some progress though. For those of you who aren't familiar with us, in 2007-08 we were voted best sweet corn and given an honorable mention of best produce in the "Journal Time" Best of Racine and in 2011 we were voted best in 3 categories.   Well... Time to get back to planting more pepper seed. Turned the heat on in the greenhouse yesterday.

Came for pumpkins, ended up with a kitten! Not once, but twice. Both cats are doing great!

Cant wait for corn and tomatoes again. Maybe you could use this posting venue to announce when the different produce is ready to sell through out the growing season.

Where are you located? My brother always buys superb sweet corn off of Braun Rd. Is that your place by chance?

I go there often. Your dad (I think he's your dad) has a great sense of humor and not shy about dishing out a good insult to boot! 'Tis the nature of his charm. See you when stuff starts growing again!

Thanks for the good words GearHead. Unfortunately that isn't my dad. It is however my Uncle Bob. He's one heck of a guy. He knows quite a bit about food preparation.

Hi Joe, we love, love, love your produce and count down the days until you open! It is all the best...sweet corn, peppers, tomatoes, eggplant (the list goes on and on). You know I will be watching this site to see what is new! Say hi to your mom and brother, see you soon!
