You know those really cute Google logo drawings? Well Dylan Hoffman, a student at Prairie School, earned enough votes to beat out the other finalists and now he's won a hefty sum of money for college and his school.
Who knew little Dylan Hoffman's Google doodle would garner so much support, and quite a bit of attention. But he earned it, according to a story in the Journal Times. The seven-year-old Caledonia boy took out his markers and drew a pirate-themed Google logo that has earned him a spot among 50 finalists in their Doodle 4 Google competition. So what did Dylan and his mom, Katherin “I fainted,” Dylan said. His mom, Katharina Hoffman, quickly clarified — he didn’t faint, but he was almost falling down from excitement. “He was kind of shocked a little bit, it’s just quite a bit for a little boy,” said Katherina Hoffman, 37, a project manager. His drawing is titled "Pirate Times," and his description said: If I could travel in time, I'd visit …

Bullying can take on a new and overwhelming turn through social media. Meet the cast of "Cyber-Mare," a show produced and acted by members of SPArK, a student group comprised of kids from different high schools.
The Internet is a fun tool that can open new worlds, but it can also open the door to danger. From the potential to connecting with adults who could do them harm, kids are also using social media to bully their classmates. How to deal with these dangers is the focus of Cyber-Mare, a new play performed by SPArK (Student Performing Arts Kompany) and directed by Kara Ernst from the Racine Theater Guild. Everyone is invited to a free performance of Cyber-Mare at 6:30 pm Monday in the Racine Theatre Guild auditorium, 2519 Northwestern Avenue. Cyber-Mare, a one-act production by Cindy Keegan, addresses the unknown and unpredictable world of the Internet and the dangers that can easily be released through the computer and into life. This play …

At 82-years-old Dick Clark, the guy who brought us generations of music, has died and here's a place where you can share your stories.
Dick Clark had my heart. And I'm sad that he died at the age of 82 of a massive heart attack today, according to a story in the Journal Sentinel. When I think of Dick Clark, I think of the television show American Bandstand, and playing Barry Manilow's Bandstand Boogie over and over again while I danced around in my mother's dresses and sang into my hairbrush. Dick was the guy that brought John Travolta, Huey Lewis and the News, and Janet Jackson to me. He was the guy that introduced my parents to the twist, and the stroll. And he was one of those people that you just knew would make your year. I consumed massive amounts of caffeine so that I could watch every minute of Rockin' New Years Eve. He was kind and genuine, and you knew the year …

That's it, the eggs have it. You've subsequently colored those eggs and are "egg-stremely" proud of your creation. Why not show off your work?
What's your favorite color when it comes to Easter egg dying? Do you go with your basic solid color or fancy those eggs up? And the burning question is ... what do you do with them after they are created? I always feel a little bad for those poor eggs. They were so pretty and then, you crack open those fragile shells and make a lot of egg salad sandwiches. Well I'd love for you to show off your eggs and I know there will be a lot of egg dying going on since everyone has off from school today. So feel free to upload your photos.

On March 23, Mount Pleasant-Sturtevant Patch will be a year old. Yes, already! I think it's time to retire the "P" that has graced our Facebook Page, and I need your help.
"P" is for Patch and all the great things that means for our communities, but it's time to bid the "P" farewell. On Facebook, at least. We've had the iconic, and rather awesome, Patch "P" as our logo, as the face of the Mount Pleasant-Sturtevant Facebook page since our site launched nearly a year ago. Yes, it has been almost a year! March 23, 2011 was our official "live" date and to celebrate, I think we need to bench the "P" and get a new photo in place. We need a photo that really speaks to the character of one or both villages. Heck, if we get a great picture from each village, we can alternate. So, whaddya say? Will you help me? Upload your photos here and I'll pick one to be the "face" of our Facebook page. Deadline is Thurs., March …
