Voting for Lehman is utter nonsense, and a selfish act to boot.

"why repeal a bill which was doing no harm or costing any money?" Why pass it in the first place, if nobody is using it? We all knew it was a sloppy kiss to the trial lawyers, so it was bad law, and deserved repeal.

Allowing early release for criminals has proven to be a bad bet. Lehman supported it, and the mail-out was accurate, if not a little sinister. I liked it.

Van has office hours every week. Lehman didn't. If Van blew you off, it is because you really weren't looking for answers. You were just making noise.

The american jobs act has created NO jobs. Reforming obnoxious regulations, passing litigation reform (see above) and reducing taxes HAS created jobs.
Everybody, including Gateway needed to share the burden to balance the severely out of whack state budget. Gateway was given the tools to keep the cuts out of the classroom, as was RUSD.

Funds have been cut to RUSD because their enrollment has declined. Both due to open enrollment, and the highly successful school choice voucher program.

Lehman showed his loyalty to the teacher's union every chance he had. But as the head of the education committee, he couldn't even make sure that RUSD truly received the two-thirds revenue sharing that he and Doyle promised. On the other hand, Van voted for a bill that put $29 million more into the RUSD coffers.

Oh and lets see, that bill you liberals claim takes away women's rights? The reality it was the repeal of a law that forced women that needed to litigate, go through more hoops. Any woman with a real gripe has gone straight to the federal court, only to have it kicked back to the unnecessary state process, meaning more money for the trial lawyers.

Lehman believes that you have the choice to kill an unborn child, but have no choice to join a union.

As far as the Educational Assistants, that move was already budgeted in October of 2010 and it was 65, not over 100. It had to do more with the changes in Special Ed and inclusion more than anything else.

And again, Lehman saw fit to limit choices that drive up costs by only going with American products and believes that parents have no choice where to send their kids unless they can afford it themselves. Lehman legislated like he served in the military; AWOL.

Wanggaard did vote to repeal the Bill helping ensure fair pay for women.
It's a lie to say that we already have laws protecting equal pay.
They are weak and rarely get enforced.

I'm an independent voter, probably come close to fitting that old mold of fiscal conservative and social liberal. Retired military and UW-Madison graduate. My anecdotal experiences with the two candidates make me inclined to support Van Wanguard. While using GI Bill benefits during the period of recent elections I had occasions to briefly come into contact with both candidates. Friends from church had always spoken highly of Senator Lehman, so I had high hopes when I contacted him to raise a concern over a change in state law that effectively eliminated the state GI Bill benefit I was utilizing. Senator Lehman seemed to feel I had no right to be concerned and that I was unscrupulously double dipping (a combination of state and federal GI Bills had covered most of my education costs). I would later learn that Senator Lehman was sometimes critiqued for his previous stances on military-related issues. While attending political science classes, I worked for both Republican and Democrat campaigns. I met Senator Van Wanguard twice. In both instances he seemed very humble and courteous - not the fire breathing campaigner so many other candidates seemed to be, and definitely not the messenger from hell many of his opponents on Patch depict him as. Lehman disappointed me, Van Wanguard pleasantly surprised. It's only anecdotal, but first impressions count, especially when so much mud is flying.

Heather, I’ve only touched on one of your points. When I only needed John Lehman to listen to my perspective and explain the grounds for a change in state law, I instead received condescension and resentful tones. I reach different conclusions on several of your other issues also, and so we will vote differently.

Heather, maybe you should ask your pal Lehman about his relationship with his wife while she was his student at Park High. Oh yeah, I said it he was active with her whrn she was a minor. He's a real noble and stand up guy!!!!!

Where was John Lehman when men like my 2 brothers were serving their time in Vietnam? How much did he value the lives of the soldiers in Vietman who were losing their lives while he (draft dodger) fled over the border to Canada.

There is nothing more discriminatory, creepy, unaccessable, un-American, weak, than a draft dodger. Of course had he NOT been unseated by Van, he would not have hesitated hi-tailing it over our state's southern border to shirk his civic responsibility.
