Southeastern Wisconsin Foreclosure Filings Fall to Six-Year Low
Racine County is one of seven counties that saw foreclosure filings decrease from January 2012.
The number of foreclosures filings in Southeastern Wisconsin fell to the lowest level in six years, reported the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
The newspaper reported that there were 720 mortgage foreclosures filings in Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Walworth, Washington and Waukesha counties in January.
Economists tell the paper that this demonstrates a recovering housing market and economy.
In Racine County, foreclosures filings decreased from January 2012 to 82 from 102, or 18.6%.
Other counties drops:
- Kenosha: 13.3%
- Ozaukee: 31.6%
- Waukesha: 30.1%
- Walworth: 19.7%
- Washington: 41.7%
- Milwaukee: 34.5%

There were 37 foreclosures in The City of Racine for January of 2013. That is more than 1 per day.
Most homes that are sold in the City of Racine are now selling for under $50,000 and are often aver-assessed by $30,000-$60,000 OR MORE.
Taxes are set to rise again - with RUSD's Davis Hazen borrowing $40M already - whose debt service will be added to 2013 tax bills, The City of Racine having a referendum on raising taxes 5%/yr and a $40M referendum for Gateway.
Who would buy property in The City of Racine - it's not an asset - it's a tax liability.
AND, the City of Racine is cutting street lights, and likely Police and Fire in the 2014 budget.
