Thanks for the cool and thoughtful Patch farewell. And yes, the beer still stands. In the mean time, I wish you and your family a very happy and prosperous New Year.
P.S. As a fellow Queen fan, I leave you with this:

Heather - thank you for all the great columns and stories you've written and covered for Patch. This site would not have gotten off to such a great start without you.

We never agreed politically. And yup, ya got the bitchin thing totally down. But I tried to contribute to your off (political) topics as well. And Heather A. knows I admire your passion. With passion, discipline and a little talent you will succeed beyond your wildest dreams. To your future! Happy new year!

Though I'm late to the "Patch" party, you and I have engaged quite a bit in other forums. You express yourself well, though we rarely agree. Emotional foundations are important but cannot offset the reality confronting us everyday. Thanks for sharing.
Happy New Year, and good luck in future ventures.

The trick to getting along during political conversations is to actually acknowledge that someone's belief system is as valid as your own and doing the work of understanding the thought behind their thoughts; understanding their fears and struggles; realizing that there can be common ground and making finding that common ground a priority. When the conversation becomes more about having the conversation rather than proving one's point... we can then appreciate the others presence in that conversation.
