Mount Pleasant Board Removes Village Administrator
Board votes unanimously to dismiss Village Administrator Mike Andreasen "without cause."
The Mount Pleasant Village Board voted unanimously Monday night to fire Village Administrator Mike Andreasen.
The board voted 6-0 to remove Andreasen after meeting in closed session for 90 minutes. Village President Carolyn Milkie abstained from voting. All other board members voted in favor of firing Andreasen, who will receive a severance package. He had less than a year left on his contract.
Andreasen was the head of Mount Pleasant's municipal staff and, essentially, ran day-to-day operations in the village.
Village Board Member Karen Albeck said Monday night Andreasen was removed "without cause." She did not elaborate on reasons behind the board's actions.
The agenda for Monday night's meeting said the closed session was due, at least in part, by a letter written to the village by former Clerk/Treasurer Juliet Edmands, who the board voted to replace in April.
Milkie said she did not know what the next step would be for the village.
Andreasen had been village administrator for seven years. Prior to Andreasen served on the Village Board and was appointed village president after Jim Turek died while in office in 2003.
Andreasen was appointed administrator in 2004.
